Splitting off is fine - and here we are!!

I've used the big kerosene blower heaters to heat aircraft hangers and warehouses. They don't smell pretty, that's for sure. My neighbors died of carbon monoxide poisoning by a heater, tho it was so long ago I don't remember the heater type. I do remember the stretchers going out to the ambulance and the firemen repelling off the roof to check on everyone in the building. A scary way to wake up, but very glad to be able to wake up.

I saw something interesting once on an antique hunt. A person had a woodburning stove of the old order, in a large approx. 75'X 30' corrugated steel, uninsulated building. All this person did was place a large stainless steel curved sheet around the backside of the heater and very close to it. Then they placed a regular fan behind the sheet of steel. It was about 20 degrees out that day, inside the structure it was warm enough for a turtleneck and a sweater. Now this was a large stove about 3' in diameter and almost 5' feet high, I dont know how big your garage is but I think a small wood burning stove and this technique would keep you very comfortable, plus girls and neighbors love wood burning stoves.

Several years ago a friend took out a working electric furnace . He wanted the then available lower gas bill.
It was a 120,000 BTU 240 Volt heater, with 3 heating elements. I disconnected 2 , a had a 40,000 BTU heater .
I wired the heater with a electric stove cordset and a 40 Amp circuit.
Over the top duct opening I put 1/2" steel hardware cloth and alum window screening.
I put a filter on the intake and finished it off with a wall mounted thermostat .

We epoxy coated the floor, hung a swing , put in a stereo with UREI 809s

With the cars outside we have a place for the grand kids to play. (papa too)

The garage has insulated plaster board walls and cieling, 1" strofome under the slab floor , thermo payne windows facing south, and an insulated 1.5" steel door. We painted it white and that really helped brighten it up.

In my particular case just some saw dust at the moment.I also open the doors weather permitting.The heat is really only needed when it dips below 40 degrees.So if the temps reach 50 degrees ? I don't use the heater at all.It has just got cold this past week really.

Not sure exactly what the project is at this stage, or how far along it is... but you might do well with 2 of the electric oil radiators (heats oil with electric element). Safe enough afaik, to leave running 24x7 (check manual), and easy-ish by comparison afaik on the electric bill. 'Pelonis' is the last brand I saw. ...and easier to run romex than gas line probably.

I was cat feeding for some folks on vacation, they left one (1) going in the basement for her highness, and it kept it 63?-66? the entire time I was there. Though, there were no 10? for 2 weeks straight spells... I was still impressed.

Maybe then throw in a couple 75w spots for when you go out there, and they'll get it the rest of the way toasty after a few minutes...

Course then you'll be able to see everything, so might then turn into a painting project to boot. ;-)
